"Snowmobiles in the summer?"

1977 at Culleys Snowmobile Ranch in Leominster, Ma. This was a custom built Grassdraggster. The chassis was a Roloflex and it had a highly modified Yamaha 440 two cylinder two stroke engine that ran a combination of Cam2 race gas, alcohol and two stroke oil. These races were held in the summer, about 10 competitors would line up on a 1/8 (not 1/4) mile straight grass strip and would cross the line at over 100mph!

The automatic clutch engaged at about 6,000rpm and when it did, the ski's would immediately lift about 4'' off the ground and stay there. To steer, you had to let off the throttle. Another feature at these events were the water crossings. We would install a small fiberglass nose piece and wider skis and cross with ease!
